Kerry suggested that the city improves the transparency of it’s governance mechanisms to heighten investors’ trust.

He also affirmed his readiness to cooperate with the southern economic hub in building a smart city.

Mentioning the Fulbright Vietnam University, located in the Hi-Tech Park of Ho Chi Minh City, Kerry asked Secretary Nhan to support the building of student accommodation in the Hi-Tech Park.

Nguyen Thien Nhan, who is also a Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, expressed his hope that the former Secretary of State, with his experience and prestige, will continue his contributions to relations between Vietnam and the US.

The Vietnamese Government is focusing on improving Vietnam’s investment environment, he said, noting that Ho Chi Minh City has plans to finalise a plan on one-stop mechanisms in order to better serve investors in the near future.

The city also aims to become a financial centre in the region and wants the US to provide more assistance in this field, he said.

Secretary Nhan gave his appreciation for the work done by Kerry over the past 10 years for the Fulbright University Vietnam (FUV), and promised to study the school’s location at the Saigon Hi-tech Park before giving an official reply on his proposal for the university’s dormitory.
