Tien Giang, Russia enhance cooperation activities

Consul General Aleksei Vladimirovich Popov thanked for the warm welcome of Tien Giang province. According to the Consul General, in recent years, cooperation between Russia and Vietnam has achieved many achievements in many areas, but it is still modest compared with the potential of the two countries. Coming to the signing of the Asia-Europe free trade agreement with Vietnam, it is expected that bilateral trade will grow to several billion dollars by 2020. To achieve this, Russia intends to strengthen direct cooperation between localities, including Tien Giang province. In the immediate future, the Consul General mentioned the cooperation in training with universities, cultural relations, etc...

Currently, Russia is one of the markets for commodities of Tien Giang. In 2016, the export turnover of Tien Giang to Russia reached USD 19.43 million; USD 2.5 billion in May.

Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee Le Van Huong expressed his respect for the sentiments of the former Soviet Union to Vietnam as well as much support and assistance of Russia to Vietnam including Tien Giang province. Tien Giang province will propose solutions to concretize the cooperation contents that the two parties wish such as training of experts and scientific researchers in Tien Giang province, tourism, cultural cooperation, expansion of export markets for agricultural products, especially the Tien Giang dragon fruit to the Russian market.

After greeting the provincial leaders, the Russian Consul General visited the Thoi Son ecotourism island and the Long Giang industrial park.
