The visit was an important historical event which took place at a time when people in the two countries are closely coordinating to successfully host the Vietnam – Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017 and are celebrating the 55th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

Various activities have been held in both countries throughout this year to observe these celebrations, which have helped the people in both countries to review the Vietnam – Laos traditional and special solidarity. The special relations, which were established by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane, and have been assiduously cultivated by generations of the two countries’ leaders and people, are an invaluable asset of the two countries.

The activities have been enthusiastically welcomed by the people and have helped younger generations in the two countries to gain a deeper understanding of the special fighting alliance and mutual support between the two Parties, States and peoples during the struggles for national independence in the past and the current process of national construction and defence in each country; thereby raising public awareness of preserving and upholding the Vietnam-Laos special relations.

The success of the Vietnam – Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017 also contributed to promoting the Vietnam-Laos relations to international friends.

During the top Lao leader’s visit, the leaders of the two countries informed each other of their current situations, exchanged talks on the orientations and measures to consolidate their bilateral relations, and discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, and General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith agreed that the special relations between the Vietnamese and Lao Parties and States hold the strategic meaning to peace, stability, cooperation and development in their respective countries, as well as in the region and around the world.

They will focus on personnel training at all levels, while promoting the spirit of the Vietnam – Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year and raising public awareness of the traditional friendship and special relations between Vietnam and Laos, especially among younger generations.

The Vietnamese and Lao leaders agreed to continue coordinating effectively and provide mutual support at regional and international forums.

The Vietnamese Party, State and People will spare no effort to consistently work with the Lao Party, State and people to preserve and deepen their special bilateral relations. May the Vietnam-Laos traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation be forever green and sustainable.
