Ho Chi Minh City fosters cooperation with Laos

ABO/NDO - Ho Chi Minh City always attaches importance to boosting the friendship and cooperation with Laos and its localities in all fields, said Ho Chi Minh Party Secretary Nguyen Thien Nhan.

The Vietnamese government and local authorities will spare no efforts to deepen the Vietnam-Laos special relationship, he said while receiving President of the Lao Front for National Construction Saysomphone Phomvihane in the city on March 21.

Sharing the city’s major development plans in the time ahead, Nhan said that along with the implementation of seven breakthrough programmes, Ho Chi Minh City has recently launched two more others, one of which aims to build the southern economic hub into a smart city.

At the meeting, Saysomphone Phomvihane expressed his condolences over the passing of former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, who died on March 17.

He said the two countries’ cooperation has been thriving, especially in 2017 when they celebrated the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 40th year since the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty on Amity and Cooperation.

Cooperation programmes between Ho Chi Minh City and Laos have been effectively implemented and mutual visits have been frequently made by high-ranking delegations of the city and Lao localities, he said.

The Lao official also voiced his belief that the bilateral special relations will be strengthened, and Ho Chi Minh City will continue to join hands with Lao localities to carry out the two countries’ joint programmes.
