Laos celebrates 65th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory

ABO/NDO – The Lao Ministry of National Defence in coordination with the Vietnamese Defence Attaché Office in Laos held a ceremony in Vientiane on May 9 to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

The ceremony saw the presence of Lao Deputy Minister of National Defence, Lieutenant General Phuvong Vongphom, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung, Vietnamese Defence Attaché to Laos Tao Van Thai and others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lao Deputy Minister of National Defence Phuvong Vongphom said that the Lao army and people are delighted to coordinate with the Party, State, army and people of Vietnam to hold the ceremony to mark the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

He noted that the Dien Bien Phu victory was the greatest victory in the history of fighting against invaders of the Vietnamese Army and people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh.

It was not only a victory of the Vietnamese Army and people, but also a victory of the Lao and Cambodian people, who allied with Vietnam to fight against the common enemy to liberate the country and force the enemy to recognise the national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, Lieutenant General Phuvong Vongphom noted.

He added that the Lao army and people were grateful for the valuable support that Vietnam has provided for Laos during its cause for national liberation and the current process of national defence and development.

Vietnamese Defence Attaché to Laos Tao Van Thai thanked the Lao Ministry of National Defence for organising the ceremony to mark the 65th anniversary of Dien Dien Phu Victory. He also expressed his gratitude to the Lao Party, State, Army and people for supporting Vietnam over the past years.
