Russian Communist Party leader honoured with Vietnam's Friendship Order

ABO/NDO – Leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF), Gennady Zyuganov, has been honoured with the Friendship Order from the Party and State of Vietnam for his contribution in tightening relationships between Vietnam and Russia.

The Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong signed the decision to grant the order to Zyuganov.

On behalf of the General Secretary and President of Vietnam, head of the Vietnamese Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, Hoang Binh Quan, presented the order to the KPRF leader in a solemn ceremony held at the Duma headquarters in Moscow on July 8, Nhan Dan Newspaper correspondent in Russia, Que Anh, reported.

Speaking after receiving the noble award, Zyuganov expressed his honour and gratitude to the General Secretary and President of Vietnam, affirming that he would continue to support Vietnam and the Communist Party of Vietnam, while advising Russian President Vladimir Putin in Russia's strategic directions to boost cooperation with Vietnam.

Earlier, Quan and his entourage held a working session with the KPRF leading board led by Zyuganov.

The KPRF leader stated that his party always supports and by all means promotes and nurtures cooperative relationships with Vietnam in all aspects. He also praised Vietnam's economy as it is developing fast and sustainably, while expressing thanks to the Vietnamese delegations in regularly paying visits to the KPRF headquarters and holding meetings with Russian communists.

Zyuganov informed that as 2020 features multiple important milestones for Russia and its communist movement, the KPRF will organise a range of activities on the occasion and will invite the Vietnamese side to attend. He also sincerely thanked the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia for their support and close coordination with the KPRF.

For his part, Quan informed the KPRF leaders about Vietnam's latest success on the international stage as it has been elected as a non-permanent UN Security Council member with a near-unanimous approval (192 out of 193 votes).

He said that as Russia and Vietnam organising the Friendship Year in each nation is a favourable political opportunity to deepen their friendship, bilateral cooperation and development in commensurate with the close relationship in all the socio-political fields, as well as commensurate with the potential of the two countries.

Quan also revealed that in 2020, Vietnam will take the ASEAN Chair, and it is a favourable opportunity for Russia to promote relations with the countries in the bloc, in line with its East-oriented policy.

The Vietnamese official once again emphasised Vietnam’s consistent stance as always considering Russia a great friend and a reliable and long-term partner, while always focusing on boosting the Vietnam - Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.
