Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh receives Malaysian ambassador

ABO/NDO – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham BinhMinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on January 7 for Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Shariffah Norhana Syed Mustaffa.

At the meeting, The Deputy PM expressed his belief that with the rich experience in the ASEAN region, the ambassador will heavily contribute to promoting the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia to continue to develop strongly in all fields.

Chiefly, the Deputy PM expressed his great appreciation for the role of the ambassador in coordinating preparations for the successful official visit to Vietnam of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, thereby strengthening the friendship and cooperation for the benefit of the two countries’ people for peace, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world.

The Deputy PM asked the ambassador to further strengthen delegation exchanges, especially high-ranking delegations especially when Vietnam’s assumes the role as the ASEAN Chair and Malaysia as the host of the APEC 2020; while maintaining and promoting effective bilateral cooperation mechanisms; and also accelerate the signing of an action programme on implementing the strategic partnership for the period 2020-2025.

Although the economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries have been developing positively in recent years, the two sides should make more efforts to realize the goal of raising the bilateral trade turnover to US$ 15 billion, Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh stated.

On this occasion, the Deputy PM also asked Malaysia to continue creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese people to work and study in Malaysia as well as humane treatment to Vietnamese fishermen, affirming that Vietnam resolutely handleillegal fishing in foreign seas.

The Malaysian Ambassador congratulated Vietnam on the occasion of Vietnam’s assumption of the roles as the ASEAN Chair for 2020 and as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2020 – 2021 tenure, affirming that Malaysia strongly supports Vietnam in successfully undertaking the two responsibilities.

The ambassador also affirmed that she would make an effort to continue boosting the momentum for bilateral relations, especially the implementing result of Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad's visit to Vietnam.
