Viet Nam takes lead in ASEAN in M&A with Japan
The number of the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) transactions between Viet Nam and Japan has reached 69 since 2010, equal to Thailand and highest among nine ASEAN nations.
Senior managing director of Recof Corporation Masataka Sam Yoshida stated that at the Viet Nam M&A Forum 2014 held on August 7.
In 2013, the M&A between the two nations mainly focused on fields of service, construction, food, information and telecommunication.
KPMG Viet Nam and Cambodia Chairman John Ditty revealed that Viet Nam passed the first phase of M&A and it is time to welcome the second wave.
The increase in the number of the M&A is thanks to the privatization of the State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) and the completion of the nation’s legal system.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Hieu confirmed that the foreign investment is sharply flowing into Viet Nam, adding that the Foreign Direct Investment accounted for 25% of the total investment, and contributed to 19% of the total Gross Domestic Products and 67% of the export turnover.
The M&A transactions value reached US$5 billion in 2013.
