Garment, textile, footwear exports grow over 20%
Shipment of garments and textiles touched US$ 2.15 billion in August, representing a month-on-month surge of 0.2% and a year-on-year increase of 20.9%, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).
In the January-August period, the commodity earned US$ 13.65 billion in export revenue, up 19.7% against the same period last year.
Meanwhile, 18.4 million pairs of leather shoes were shipped abroad in August, bringing the total number to 165.2 million pairs in the first eight months. Footwear shipment pocketed US$ 6.69 billion in revenue, posting a year-on-year increase of 23.1%.
However, the MoIT reported that Viet Nam still relies on Chinese raw materials due to a supply shortage in the domestic market.
A large number of small and medium-sized enterprises are joining hands to seek new raw material markets with a view to minimizing their heavy reliance on a single supplier.
