Agro-forestry and fishery exports estimated at US$30.8 billion in 2014

The total export revenue of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is estimated to reach US$30.8 billion in 2014, up 11.2% compared to 2013, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has announced.

The MARD also reported a trade surplus in the agricultural sector of US$9.5 billion in 2014, an increase of 7.7% over the previous year.

According to the MARD, several key export commodities including seafood, wood and wood products, coffee, pepper and cashew nuts all saw increased export values.

The export turnover of seafood products was estimated at US$7.92 billion in 2014, up 18.4% against 2013. The US remains the leading importer of Vietnamese seafood, accounting for 21.81% of the total export revenue.

The exports of wood and wood products were reported at US$6.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.1%. The US, China and Japan are the three largest importers of Vietnamese products, occupying over 66% of the total export value.

Notably, coffee exports were valued at US$3.62 billion in 2014, up 33.4% in volume and 33.2% in value over the past year, with Germany and the US being the largest consumers.

In the meantime, some famous products suffered declines in export value including rice, down 1.9% and rubber, down 28.9%.

The MARD sets the target of attaining an export revenue of farm produce of US$31 billion in 2015.
