In the remaining days of the year, the province expects to ship an additional 250,000 tonnes overseas, raising the figure for the whole year to 5.85 million tonnes, worth USD2.9 billion, equal to that of 2013.
Asian and African markets made up 83% of the region’s total exported rice volume and the rest was exported to North and South America, Europe and Oceania.
Mr. Nguyen Phong Quang, standing Deputy Head of the Northwest Steering Committee, said that rice export in the Mekong Delta met difficulties from severe price competitiveness with other exporters. Aiming to remove the difficulties, the region intensified promotion activities, advertised products and retained market shares in traditional markets such as Singapore, China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Malaysia, Algeria and Indonesia. Meanwhile, it also made efforts to seek more partners in the EU, North Africa, Asia and Africa.
