My Loi Bridge connecting Tien Giang and Long An opens to traffic
The My Loi Bridge over the Vam Co River connecting the two Mekong Delta provinces of Tien Giang and Long An officially opened to traffic on August 29.
Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The said inaugurating the bridge to replace the current ferry route would help ease traffic congestion on National Highway 50 and boost economic development in the eastern districts of Tien Giang province.
It is estimated that the My Loi Bridge will shorten the travel distance from Tien Giang to Ho Chi Minh City to 25 kilometres, compared with around 100 kilometres if travelling by the HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway.
The 1,422-metre long and 12-metre wide bridge includes five spans and was completed after 18 months of construction with a total cost of 1.439 trillion (US$64.8 million) under the build-transfer-operate model.
The same day in Ninh Thuan province, the 1,018-metre An Dong Bridge over the Dinh River also opened to traffic.
Director of the Ninh Thuan Department of Transport said the bridge was one of the eight components of the province’s 106-kilometre coastal road project.
The bridge, which was constructed by Hyundai and had its cables installed by Freyssinet, cost an estimated VND1.327 trillion (US$59.7 million).
