Vietnam's industrial production up 8.8% in October
Vietnam’s index of industrial production (IIP) increased 8.8% in October compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO).

The power manufacturing and distribution sector saw the biggest growth at 12.3%, followed by water supply and treatment of wastewater and garbage at 9.4% and the processing and manufacturing industry at 9.1%.
The 10-month IIP also witnessed a year-on-year increase of 9.7%, with mining up 8.4%, manufacturing up 10%, electricity manufacturing and distribution up 11.5%, and water supply and waste treatment up 7.4%.
Some products with strong IIP growth against the same period of 2014 included automobiles (up 54.5%), televisions (up 49.6%), mobile phones (up 42.6%), leather and footwear (up 18.1%), powdered milk (up 17.9%) and fresh milk (up 15.3%).
Thai Nguyen was the locality with the biggest year-on-year IIP growth at 121.9%, ahead of Quang Nam, 31.9%; Hai Phong, 15.8%; Da Nang, 14.1%; Hai Duong, 10.3%; Binh Duong, 9.2%; Dong Nai, 8.5%; Hanoi, 7.7% and Ho Chi Minh City, 7.4%.
The October consumption index of the processing and manufacturing industry increased 5.3% against the previous month and 13.4% year-on-year. For the first nine months of the year, the index rose 13.1% compared to the same period last year.
As of October 1, the inventory index of the processing and manufacturing industry posed a 9.8% year-on-year increase.
