Jan export of agro-forestry and aquatic products down 3.1%

The export revenue of agro-forestry and aquatic products was estimated to have reached US$2.33 billion in January, a 3.1% year-on-year decrease, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In the first month of 2016, the export of several agricultural products including rice and cashew nuts thrived but coffee, pepper, and rubber saw declines in value.

The export value of key agricultural products reached approximately US$1.16 billion in January, up 2.8% over the same period in 2015.

Around 495,000 tonnes of rice was exported in January worth US$218 million, up 56.7% in volume and 46% in value compared to January 2015. The exports of cashew nuts also saw good growth with a year-on-year increase of 9% in terms of volume and 15.6% in terms of value.

In the meantime, the exports of coffee and rubber continued on a downward trend in 2015 with a rise in volume, but drops in value. In addition, pepper exports have plunged in both volume (down 30.2%) and value (down 31.5%) over the same period last year.

In January, the export value of aquatic products was estimated at US$455 million, an 8.8% year-on-year decrease while the export value of key forestry products was posted at nearly US$520 million, down 15.1% year-on-year.

In 2015, the export value of agro-forestry and aquatic products reached US$30.45 billion, up 0.2% compared to 2014, with a 1.9% year-on-year decrease in key agricultural products, 8.8% year-on-year decrease in key aquatic products and 10.2% year-on-year increase in key forestry products.
