Durian speciality fetches high prices after the New Year

After the New Year, durian speciality in Tien Giang province fetches high prices. The prices reachs 100,000 VND per a kilogram of best durian for Monthong durian variety.

According to farmers planted durian in Long Tien commune, traders buy at garden with 70,000-75,000 VND per a kilogram, an increase of nearly 20,000 VND per a kilogram in comparision with the same period last year

With an average yield of 20 tonnes per hectare and harvesting at the right time, each hectare planted Monthong durian variety gets VND1.6-1.7 billion, in which famer profits by VND1 biliion.

Acording to Deputy Director of Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Van Hoa, durian has been identified as one of seven special fruit which has a competitive advantage and invested continually to improve the quality and position in market.

Tien Giang province has over 8,000 hectares planted durian. Cai Lay district is considered as “the capital of durian” with 6,000 hectares in Tam Binh commune, Ngu Hiep commune, Long Khanh commune, Long Trung commune, etc…
