Agricultural produce exports bring in over US$10 billion
The value of exports of agro-forestry products and fisheries was estimated at nearly US$2.97 billion in April, elevating the total export turnover of these products over the past four months to US$10.02 billion, a 11% year-on-year rise, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
The ministry said that over the past four months, the export value of key farm products was estimated to reach US$4.98 billion, a 13.5% year-on-year increase while those of fisheries and forestry products were estimated at US$1.97 billion (6.3% year-on-year rise) and US$2.25 billion (4.3% year-on-year rise) respectively.
Contributing to the high export growth, rice exports in April were estimated to bring in US$235 million with a total of 510,000 tonnes of rice exported, making the total volume of exported rice over the past four months reach 2.06 million tonnes. Rice exports in the first four months of the year made US$916 million, 11.8% and 13.8% year-on-year rises in volume and in value respectively. The average price of exported rice was estimated at US$438 per tonne, a 0.32% increase.
Vietnam exported 204,000 tonnes of coffee in April, making US$344 million and bringing the volume of exported coffee over the past four months to 9.681 million and US$1.16 billion, 44.6% and 18.2% increases in volume and value respectively. The average price of exported coffee in the first three months of the year reached US$1,697 per tonne, an 18.3% decrease.
The volume of exported tea reached 9,000 tonnes bringing in US$11 million, contributing to the total amount of tea exported over the past four months and earning US$47 million with 32,000 tonnes of tea, a 2.7% and 12.2% decrease in both volume and value respectively. The average price of exported tea in the first quarter of the year was US$1.529 per ton, a 5.38% year-on-year decline.
Meanwhile, the average price of exported cashew nuts in the first quarter stood at US$47,560 per tonne, a 5.5% year-on-year rise. The US, China and the Netherlands were the three largest importers of cashew nuts, accounting for 29,25%, 18.46% and 12.49% of the total export turnover respectively.
The export of wood and wood products in April made US$633 million, elevating the value of exported wood and wood products to US$2.15 billion, a 4.3% rise. The three largest importers of wood and wood products from Vietnam in the first quarter of the year were the US, Japan and China, accounting for 66.31% of the total export turnover.
