Can Tho is the next stop in Deputy PM Hue’s tour of the Mekong River Delta.

He praised the city’s improvement in the national competitiveness ranking at 14th place among 63, but noted it only stood at 5th among 13 provinces in the region, which is not proportionate to its role as the centre of the region.

He urged local leaders to enhance the city’s business environment in order to attract investment and start-up companies.

The Deputy PM said the city-based Vietnam-Korea Incubator Park must be a birthplace for Vietnamese start-ups.

He asked Can Tho leaders to further promote the incubator to the business community and call for investment from venture capital funds instead of subsidising its operations with the city budget.

Deputy PM Hue also requested Can Tho endeavour to become a major hub in the Mekong River Delta region in 2025.

The city was also asked to take an active and proactive role in promoting regional linkage, especially in saline intrusion prevention efforts, agricultural production, tourism and investment.

These issues are expected to be discussed at the Mekong Delta Economic Cooperation forum scheduled to take place in Hau Giang province next year to work out measures that can be put into practice immediately.
