To deploy the project linked sustainable development Dong Thap Muoi subregion
On September 24, Tien Giang province, Long An province and Dong Thap province deployed the project linked sustainable development Dong Thap Muoi subregion.
The project linked sustainable development Dong Thap Muoi subregion was proposed by Dong Thap province and was signed by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc by No. 593/QĐ-TTg approving the implementation to promote the linkage for development of Mekong Delta period 2016-2020.

The project aims at building and developing Dong Thap Muoi subregion to become the national major area of agricultural production on a condition of climate change and global integration. Content linkage concentrates on 3 fields such as: Developing the value chain of agricultural commodities, constructing and upgrading transport infrastructure and inter-regional water resources, managing water resource as well as protecting environment to response to climate change and develop industry, trade and service.
Dong Thap Muoi region has physical area of approximately 606, 000 hectares, making up 17.7 percent of the natural area of the Mekong Delta, including 19 urban districts under Long An province, Tien Giang province and Dong Thap province. This area has a lot of potential and advantage in rice production, aquaculture and tourism. However, in the past time, the exploitation of natural resources as well as the construction of the value chain of agricultural production in the region has not been interested, lacking of brand reputation on the international market, especially the main product as rice.
At the working session, leaders of the provincial Party Committee, People's Committee of three above provinces, the Southwest Steering Committee and the scientists appreciated the frame of project. At the same time, they confirmed that agricultural production will be difficult before effect of the market as well as the process of climate change, notably including water resource management issue if they if not linked.
In order to implement the project effectively, it is necessary to investigate the current state of agriculture in the region to appreciate the potential and advantages of each province to have appropriate development orientation. Besides, it is necessary to clarify the mechanisms linkage, the fund and close coordination between three provinces as well as as many central ministries in coordinating operation of the project.
According to delegates, the implementation of the project linked sustainable development Dong Thap Muoi subregion not only creates conditions for Long An province, Tien Giang province, Dong Thap province’s development but also create the premise to promote the development linkage of Mekong Delta in the near future.
