Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve was established in 2000 with a total area of 107 ha. Of these, there is nearly 58 hectares of acassia aneura forest for flock of water birds to entice, reside and reproduce.
These years, Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve reassembled 70 plant species, 85 species of native animals, enticing about 12,000 rare birds and animals.
The buffer zone has total area of 1,900 hectares. Of these, around 60 percent of the 250 hectares changed to plant pineapple, rice and breeding fishes instead of planting acassia aneura by residents.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the implementation of a project to expand and keep the stable acassia aneura forest area of the buffer zone has a very important role for the conservation of Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve.
