Outseasonable durian fetches high prices

Cai Lay district has nearly 7,195 hectares of durian with two main varieties, Ri6 and Mongthong durian, concentrated in Ngu Hiep commune, Tam Binh commune, Long Tien commune, Long Trung commune, Cam Son commune. Over many years, gardeners have bravely applied science and technology into production, bringing high economic efficiency.

According to many durian growers in Cai Lay district, traders buy Ri6 durian at garden with VND85,000 per a kilogram, higher than VND30,000 per a kilogram in comparision with last week. At this price gardeners earn over VND450 million per a hectare. However, due to the influence of weather conditions, some diseases arose and caused harm to durian trees. Presently, Cai Lay district has 15 hectares of durian got aphids and 35 hectares got head scar disease and 38 hectares got blight disease.

The functional sectors advise gardeners to apply good science and technology in production as well as to actively prevent common diseases in durian trees in each period to ensure good durian production after harvest.
