The eastern districts harvest the winter-autumn rice

Farmers in the eastern districts of Tien Giang province are harvesting the winter-autumn rice 2017 with a total area of about 30,700 hectares, concentrated in Go Cong Tay district and Go Cong Dong district.

The average yield is 4.5 tons per hectare, higher than last year's 500 kilogram per hectare of the previous winter-autumn rice. On the other hand, this rice crop is not affected by salt water so the quality of rice is good. Traders buy rice with high prices. High quality rice varieties such as Dai Thom 8, Nang Hoa 9, VD 20, etc… are sold with the price from VND 6,000 to VND 6,300 per kilogram. The normal rice is sold from VND 5,200 to VND 5,500 per kilogram.

In particular, nearly 2,430 hectares rice in Go Cong Tay district and nearly 1,200 hectares rice in Go Cong Dong district were produced under the large field, yielding an average yield of 5.5 tons per hectare, reducing production costs by about 10 %, increasing profits by 10 to 15% compared to a normal production. All rice yields harvested in the field were purchased by the company at market prices.

According to the plan, in the winter-spring reice of 2017-2018, the eastern districts of Tien Giang province will sow about 31,000 hectares, of which about 1,260 hectares in 11 communes in Go Cong Tay district and 564 hectares in 7 communes in Go Cong Dong Dong district taken part in the large field of rice production.

With the requirement of using high quality rice varieties, strict application of farming practices, the provincial agriculture will cooperate with the commune authorities to set up cooperative groups, cooperatives, to call on enterprises to support agricultural materials and product consumption in oder to aim at increasing profit for farmers.
