At the opening speech, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh affirmed that fruit is the main agricultural product of our country with total area up to this time is 858,000 hectares, the total output reached 8.5 million tons, the total export turnover USD 3.16 billion. However, this result has not matched with the potential of Vietnamese fruit because fruit production is still limited, such as: small scale production, scattering, difficult for investment, quality management and product consumption.

Some kinds of fruits increased spike such as dragon fruit, litchi, etc ... making the supply exceed the demand; investment costs of production is high; linkage production organization is loose; the system consumption is unprofessional without the participation of large enterprises; the processing technology has not developed so mainly export fresh fruit, from which competitiveness is not high in comparision to other countries, etc...

In the framework of the conference, the delegates focused on five core issues in order to effectively exploit the potential and increase the value of Vietnamese fruits such as concentrating on expanding the area of fruit trees with consumption expectations, especially high export demand; to improve product quality by producing food safety standards; to improve storage capacity, reduce post-harvest losses; to intensify deep processing of products, build brand names, geographical indications, and to grant monopoly trademarks, ... to harmonize production and consumption and to boost export; By 2020, the total fruit output of Vietnam will reach 9.5 million tons and the export value will reach USD 4.5 billion USD.
