Tien Giang province organizes a workshop on durian production and consumption

Tien Giang province has the largest area of durian in the country with total area of 8,200 hectares, total production of over 200,000 tons / year. Currently, one hectare of durian has an average income of about VND 1.2 billion VND per year but the economic potential of this specialty fruit is still large.

At the workshop, experts analyzed the strengths and weaknesses in the production and consumption of durians in Tien Giang province. The expert recommended durian farmers for changing the old durian varieties, degenerating to high quality seedlings grown in the planning area, applying science and technology to production, especially exporting according to VietGAP or GlobalGAP procedures, not using post-harvest chemicals, etc…

Particularly, experts from Thailand shared the experience of growing durian in Thai land, emphasizing fresh durian solutions to increase fruit quality and increase competitiveness in the world market.

Deputy Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee Tran Thanh Duc affirmed that durian fruit is the main fruit in Tien Giang province so the provincial leaders are very interested in investing and developing this fruit.

He thanked the comments on solutions developed durian industry of domestic and foreign experts. He committed that Tien Giang province will support and create favorable conditions for investors to link with farmers to develop production and consumption of durian.
