After a year of star apple exporting to the US market, the Tien Giang province exported 240 tons of fruits while total of star apple production in the province reached nearly 6,200 tons per year. The reason for the export output is not worthy of the potential due to some difficulties such as: the control of the area code is not tight; the bag for the fruit is not safe absolutely with fruit fly; the preliminary processing and packaging do not guarantee the removal of maggots, egg maggots in the fruit.

In addition, some farmers have not done fruit bagging due to lack of labor. The bag used to wrap the fruit is still limited. The enterprises buying star apple are very strict so the rate of fruit waste is much; especially enterprises do not have the same level of linkage in the purchase of star apple so there is the unfair competition in purchasing price, etc…

From these difficulties, the conference agreed on measures to promote the export of star apple to the US market in the upcoming 2018 season such as: To maintain production of 120 hectares of star apple issued code; to continue the direction growers to prevent pests on fruit in a safe method, etc… Especially, Tien Giang province will support farmers in biological medicines, the wrapping fruit material for the area for issuing code and support enterprises to determine the area to be issued code for export, etc...

In addition, Tien Giang province also proposed the Plant Protection Department should strictly control the allocation of plantation area code and provide information on plant quarantine situation for star apple lots which do not meet export requirements in order to maintain the prestige of star apple in the US market and other high-grade foreign markets in the future.
