Before the complicated happenings of the 2018 flood, more than 7,700 hectares of summer-autumn rice expected to be harvested after 30 September 2018 in the western districts of the province will be affected. Therefore, to protect and harvest summer-autumn rice safely, the western districts of the province are now reinforcing open dikes and low dykes. For the area of orchards and 77 thousand hectares pineapples, most dykes cover is basic to prevent flood and tides. However, in the case of big floods equivalent to 2011 combined with high tides will overflow the dykes to affect the area of orchards in Cai Be, Cai Lay and Tan Phuoc districts.
Facing this situation, Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee Le Van Huong asked departments, departments and localities to strengthen the propaganda to guide people to check dike cover. At the same time, it is necessary to appoint people to monitor closely the water level, prepare a plan to respond to floods in 2011 to ensure the safe harvest of the summer-autumn rice crop and to protect the area of fruit trees in the western district of the province.
