Conference on capacity assessment of agro-forestry-fishery product processing industry

ABO – On October 19, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Tran Thanh Nam and Deputy Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan co-chaired the conference on capacity assessment and acceleration the development of agro-forestry-fishery product processing industry and agricultural mechanization for the restructure of the agricultural sector in the South.

At the opening speech, Deputy Minister of MARD Tran Thanh Nam confirmed that in the past 20 years, agro-forestry -fishery product processing industry has achieved good results, contributing to the development of agricultural production and the social economy stability of the country. The country now has 7,000 agricultural product processing enterprises invested in modern technology to meet the demand for export, attracting about 1.6 million direct labor and tens of millions of indirect workers. By the year 2030, the agro-forestry -fishery product processing industry must reach the average level of advanced production technology, of which some key industries reach the top of the region and the world, including products to meet the demand of the domestic and foreign markets, strongly promoting the field of production of raw materials.

He also said that, compared to the whole country, the level of mechanization of agricultural production in the southern provinces is higher and increasing rapidly, limiting hard labor, speeding up the process of linking production, formulating rural service organizations. Farmers bravely invested in machinery and applied hi-tech in production to reduce their production costs. In the coming time, MARD encourages provinces to promote agricultural mechanization in line with each region and each target group in order to shift labor structure towards high concentration and economic efficiency.

Particularly, Tien Giang province was focusing on implementing many groups of solutions to promote enterprises to invest in processing agro-forestry -fishery products such as developing high quality raw materials; re-organizing production along the value chain, investing in the development of agricultural and rural infrastructure; attracting investment in processing sector; transferring and applying high technologies to production and post-harvest handling; accelerating the implementation of the administrative reform program, etc... 
 
On this occasion, Tien Giang province called on partners and investors to participate in processing of potential agricultural products of the province such as fruits, rice, agriculture, livestock, poultry, etc...
