The area of rice is at risk of water mainly in coastal communes, away from freshwater resources stored on the canals. These are 44 hectares of Go Cong Dong district including Phuoc Trung commune, Tan Thanh commune and 90 hectares of Go Cong town including Binh Dong commune, Binh Xuan commune, Tan Trung commune and Long Chanh commune.
In order to protect this rice area at risk of water shortage, the Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requires local authorities to quickly survey and grasp the situation of rice growth and development to guide farmers take measures to use water economically and apply the wet-dry irrigation principle alternately.
In addition, localities need to mobilize people to clear the flow of irrigation routes in order to lead water from main canals into deep fields and to prepare water pumps to pump water for rice rescue if the drought and salinity changes occur complexly.
Particularly, the Tien Giang Exploiting Irrigation Works One Member Co., Ltd regularly observes water sources on canals, widely informing salinity so that farmers can proactively store water, in order to minimize losses productivity and quality when harvesting rice.
