Tien Giang province provides free freshwater to 5,000 households in saline area
ABO – Facing of complicated saline water intrusion, Tien Giang province plans to open 86 public faucets with a total budget of over half a billion VND to provide free freshwater to serve more than 5,000 households.
According to Director of the Sub-Department of Irrigation and Flood Prevention Nguyen Thien Phap (under Tien Giang province Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), before the situation of saline intrusion is complicated, the locality plans to open 86 taps public water with a total cost of over half a billion VND to provide free freshwater to serve more than 5,000 households in coastal and riverside areas, outside the dike to prevent salinity.

These are areas in Go Cong coastal districts including Go Cong Dong district, Go Cong Tay district, Tan Phu Dong district and Go Cong town.
In the immediate future, Tien Giang province opens more than 50 public taps to urgently deal with water resources for people in extremely difficult areas to avoid people to fall into a shortage of fresh water for daily life and buy or exchange water with high prices. Faucets are opened during the dry season 2019, which is expected to end in June 2019.
In addition, the locality urgently dredged freshwater reservoirs in the area managed by Tien Giang Water Supply One-member Limited Company to increase the ability to store freshwater; continuing supplementary pump, maintaining stable water pressure to serve the daily needs of the people during the salty drought season.
The province propagated and raised awareness of people in strengthening water storage in combination with using water economically, preventing pollution of water sources for living and production in the area.
In the long term, to ensure a stable and radical source of water for the people in the coastal area of Go Cong, the province has many investment solutions to develop the network suitable and strategic drinking water, depending on the characteristics of each region, each locality.
According to the plan, in the dry season 2019, Tien Giang province invests in 7 projects to aim at solving domestic water for people in Go Cong coastal area with a total budget of over VND 18.2 billion.
In the following years, the province continues to invest more than VND 145 billion to implement rural water supply works to serve the people in the area.
