To boost the domestic market for star apple, Chairman of the PPC urged

ABO - On April 9, the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee (PPC) held a meeting to assess the situation of star apple production, consumption and export to the US market. Chairman of the PPC Le Van Huong and Deputy Chairman of the PPC Le Van Nghia chaired the meeting.

According to statistics, the star apple area of Tien Giang province is now 436 hectares, of which the area for production is 398 hectares with the productivity as 14 tons/hectare as well as the output as over 6,000 tons.

Most of the area for star apple concentrated in Chau Thanh, Cai Lay, Cai Lay Town and Cai Be districts. Up to now, the total number of granted codes area is 11 codes on 129 hectares with 395 star apple farmers.

In 2018, there were 3 enterprises participated in the star apple purchase and export Dai Lam Moc Co., Ltd, Chinh Thu import and export fruit Co., Ltd and Anh Duong Sao Co., Ltd.

At the meeting, leaders of Tien Giang province Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Science and Technology and localities presented advantages and difficulties in the process of star apple producing, consuming and export, focusing on issues such as market, quality, production, post-harvest preservation, etc ... and proposed to remove difficulties and obstacles.

Chairman of the PPC Le Van Huong directed the departments and localities to solve difficulties for businesses and farmers. It is necessary to assist businesses in the post-harvest processing technology to preserve star apple for export as well as to guide farmers to produce star apple to meet quality standards and to ensure benefits for farmers.

Chairman of the PPC said that: In order to diversify forms of consumption of star apple, besides the export, it is necessary to boost the domestic market, coordinating with processing and manufacturing enterprises, raising the value of star apple, thereby contributing to raising income for farmers, etc...
