Accordingly, the project was approved by the Ministry of Transport in 2013, with a length of 173.677 km through the provinces and cities including: Binh Duong district, Ho Chi Minh city, Long An district, Tien Giang district, Vinh Long district and Can Tho city.
The railway has the first point to receive goods at An Binh Station (Di An town, Binh Duong province), the first point receives guests at Tan Kien station (Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh city) and the end point at the station Cai Rang (Cai Rang district, Can Tho city).
The project is proposed to diverge investment into two phases. However, the investor proposed to invest only the first phase from Tan Kien station to Cai Rang station with a length of 139.6 km through the provinces and cities including Ho Chi Minh city, Long An district, Tien Giang district, Vinh Long district and Can Tho city.
The second phase is invested from An Binh station to Tan Kien station (Ho Chi Minh city) and the railway branch to Hiep Phuoc port has a length of 33.6 km. The investors do not propose to implement. Total investment is expected to be 4,482.97 million USD by BOT form.
At the meeting, the consultant presented the proposal to adjust the project planning compared to the previous one. According to the new planning proposal, the section from Tan Kien station to Cai Rang station (through Ho Chi Minh city, Long An district and Tien Giang district) will adjust in parallel with the Ho Chi Minh - Trung Luong expressway, Trung Luong - My Thuan expressway, etc...
Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The said that in the coming time, the consultant unit must make great efforts to adjust the project planning. Because of the evaluation, the proposal has not enough information and basis for the Ministry Transport to decide to adjust the project planning. The consultant unit has not proved a new plan better than the previous.
“Railway traffic cannot be isolated but it must be connected to road, waterway, air traffic and seaports. Therefore, when planning the project, it is necessary to calculate the plan of connecting traffic to exploit effectively. In that spirit, Ministry of Transport proposes related units to quickly adjust the project planning; recalculating investment divergence, etc... ”, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The stressed.
