ABO - On February 17, Chairman of Tien Giang People's Committee and leaders of Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Giang province checked the drought, saltwater intrusion prevention in Cai Lay district.

The delegation checked the drought, saltwater intrusion prevention in past times and surveyed salinity levels as well as the situation of supply of production water at Cai La sewer in the area of Hiep Phu hamlet, Hiep Duc commune and some surrounding areas in the district.
According to Cai Lay district and Tien Giang Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Ltd. Co, the salinity measured at Cai La sewer on February 17 was returned to zero (0 gam/litre). Many sewers in the district were closed to prevent saltwater intrusion to protect durian-growing areas and other high-value fruit trees.
Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Van Huong highly appreciated the efforts of the local authorities and related units in the drought prevention, especially the operation of sewers to prevent saltwater intrusion in the locality.
He agreed on the proposal to open Cai La sewer to get fresh water for agricultural production in the district.
He also assigned Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and local authorities to carefully consider opening and closing hours of sewers to get water and have backup solutions to ensure water safety people’s production.
