Vietnam inaugurates Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway
ABO/NDO - The 51-kilometre-long Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway was inaugurated on the morning of April 27, expected to improve transport links in the Mekong Delta region.
The expressway is located entirely in Tien Giang Province, running from the Than Cuu Nghia Interchange, which connects with the Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luong Expressway, to the An Thai Trung Interchange.
The project’s construction began in 2009 and the completion date has been delayed several times, but it is finally scheduled to open to traffic on April 30, with a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour.

Over the next two months, vehicles can use the expressway free of charge for the project owner to evaluate technical issues before tolls begin to be collected.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy PM Le Van Thanh highlighted the importance of the Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway to socio-economic development in Tien Giang and neighbouring provinces of the Mekong Delta.
It is also a step towards the goal of completing another 361 kilometres of the north-south expressway by the end of 2022 so that the entire north-south expressway can be completed from Lang Son to Ca Mau by 2025.
He took the occasion to ask the Ministry of Transport and provinces in the region to act boldly to accelerate the progress of other planned expressway projects.
Vietnam will invest an estimated 100 trillion VND (4.3 billion USD) in the Mekong Delta region over the next five years to develop transport infrastructure, including the My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway, My Thuan 2 Bridge, Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway and Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway.
