Two more North-South Expressway sections inaugurated

ABO/NDO- A ceremony was held on October 18 to inaugurate two more sections of the eastern North-South Expressway from National Highway 45 in Thanh Hoa Province to Dien Chau in Nghe An Province.

The two sections, namely National Highway 45-Nghi Son and Nghi Son-Dien Chau, have a total length of nearly 100 kilometres, raising the total length of the North-South Expressway to about 1,050 kilometres.

They also form a direct 251-kilometre route from Hanoi to Nghe An, helping to shorten the travel time from the current 5 hours to just 3.5 hours, said Deputy Transport Minister Le Dinh Tho.

The two sections already temporarily opened to traffic in September to serve road users during the National Day holiday.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the two expressway sections, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha praised the contractors for their efforts to overcome many difficulties to complete the projects on schedule and meet quality standards.

He emphasised that their inauguration is a memorable milestone, expected to boost socio-economic development along the route.

Over the past three years, Vietnam has completed 649 kilometres of expressway, raising the total length of the national expressway network to 1,822 kilometres.

Two more North-South Expressway sections, Dien Chau-Bai Vot and Cam Lam-Vinh Hao, totalling 128 kilometres, are scheduled for completion in 2024, while the entire expressway from Lang Son to Ca Mau is expected to be completed in 2025.
