Vietnam's workforce up slightly in first quarter of 2024
ABO/NDO- In the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam’s workforce aged 15 and above was estimated at 52.4 million, up 175,800 over the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office.
The number of people with jobs reached 51.3 million, a year-on-year rise of 174,100.
The rate of skilled workers in the first quarter was 27.8%, up from the previous quarter and the same quarter in 2023.
The average monthly income continued to improve, reaching 7.6 million (304 USD), up 301,000 VND from the previous three months and up 549,000 from a year earlier.

The rise in income was seen across almost all economic sectors compared to a year ago, with the biggest rises recorded in property trading, power generation and distribution, and finance, banking and insurance.
The unemployment rate for the working age dropped to 2.24%, while the urban jobless rate has also been maintained under 3% since the first quarter of 2022.
Unemployment among young people aged 15-24 remained high at 7.99%. The rates for urban and rural areas were 10.18% and 6.87% respectively.
