"Give me a ticket to childhood" to be released in US
The announcement came from Amazon.com, which hails the book as "the best selling book in the history of modern Viet Nam". “Cho toi xin mot ve di tuoi tho” published by Overlook Publishing House in English version, is named “ Give me a Ticket to Childhood”.
The book has been printed 41 times, a phenomenon in the Vietnamese publishing industry. More than 350,000 copies of the book have been sold since it first hit bookshelves in 2008. A recipient of the ASEAN Literature Award 2010, the award winner has also been translated and printed in the Thailand and Korean languages.
Translated by Will Naythons, the novel combines wonderful and vivid childhood memories with the reality of adult life.
Author Nguyen Nhat Anh was born in 1955 in Thang Binh district, in the central province of Quang Nam. In 1973, he moved to Sai Gon (Ho Chi Minh city at present) and sought to write and publish A man of many names, Nhat Anh adopted many pen names, such as;Nguyen Nhat Anh, Anh Bo Cau, Le Duy Cat, Dong Phuong Soc and Soc Phuong Dong. In 1995, he was selected as the most beloved writer over the past 20 years thanks to readers’ vote through the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Youth Newspaper.
He was also chosen as one of the 20 outstanding young writers for the twenty year period between 1975 and 1995, by Ho Chi Minh city Writers’ Association. With over 100 works complete, Vietnam’s children will forever remember the words of Nguyen Nhat Anh.
