5th Korean Language and Culture Festival in Vietnam
The 5th Korean Language and Culture Festival in Vietnam will be held on October 25 at Nguyen Van Dao Hall, Vietnam National University - Hanoi, and on October 26 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh city.
The festival (starts at 8h30am), aims to commemorate the promulgation of Hangeul, an indigenous Korean alphabet which was created by King Sejong of the Joseon Dynasty in 1443 for use by the ordinary people. Hangeul has been widely lauded by scholars throughout the world for its advanced phonetic system and convenience in learning and using. The Korean people celebrate the creation of Hangeul on October 9 as a national holiday.

It is resulted from collaboration between Korean public organizations in Vietnam and Vietnamese higher educational institutions which are interested in cultural and academic exchange between the two nations.
Besides promisingly talent competitions, the event also offers exhibition, performances and a food festival for students and local residents. In particular, books on Korea in Vietnamese will also be displayed.
Mr Park Kyoung Chul, Director of Korea Foundation in Hanoi, emphasized the significance of the event, saying that Vietnamese students who are studying Korean language in 26 universities and language centers both Northern and Southern regions play an important role in promoting the images of Korea along the nation by joining such interesting program.
Co-funded by the Korea Foundation in Hanoi, the Korean Cultural Center, the Korea International Cooperation, the AT Center, and the Korea Tourism Organization, this year’s Festival is co-sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Hanoi, the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Ho Chi Minh city, and co- organized by the University of Languages & International Studies, Vietnam National University - Hanoi and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh city.
