The ceremony was attended by President of the Vietnam Paralympic Association (VPA), Pham Van Tuan, VPA General Secretary and head of the national team, Vu The Phiet, and more than 60 Vietnamese officials and athletes.

Forty five competitors are representing the S-shaped country vying for glory in six sports: athletics, badminton, swimming, table tennis, bowling and powerlifting.

Vietnam’s gold-medal hopes are pinned on Do Thanh Hai, Vo Thanh Tung and Nguyen Thanh Trung (swimming); Le Van Cong and Nguyen Binh An (weightlifting); and Pham Duc Trung (badminton).

Vietnamese athletes were ready for the Games and would try their best to bring glory to the homeland, Phiet said after the flag-raising ceremony.

At the previous edition in Guangzhou, China four years ago, the Vietnamese delegation finished 11th of 41 participating countries, winning a total of three gold, four silver and 10 bronze medals.

The second Asian Para Games will run for seven days from October 18 to 24. As many as 6,000 athletes from 42 countries will display their capabilities across 23 disciplines.
