The 10-day event has brought together over 620 athletes representing 74 countries and territories from around the world.

Vietnam’s six male and two female contestants will battle it out in the women’s individual and all-around disciplines and men’s individual, team and all-around categories, with the country’s medal hope pinned on top gymnast, Phan Thi Ha Thanh.

Ha Thanh grabbed Vietnam’s first-ever world-class bronze medal after finishing third in the women’s vault event at the 2011 world championship in Tokyo, making Vietnam among the 43 countries to win medals in this prestigious arena.

The Vietnamese gymnastics team wrapped up their 17th Asian Games campaign on September 25 with a four-medal tally – one silver by Ha Thanh on balance beam and three bronze by Ha Thanh (vault), Dinh Phuong Thanh (men’s parallel bars) and Dang Nam (men’s ring).
