Binh An claimed top honour in the men’s -54kg event, lifting 176kg before establishing a new Asian record with his fourth lift of 179kg – 2kg heavier than the previous record held by China’s Feng Qi, who finished second in the same event with a lift 165kg.

The swimming team also had a sparkling day of competition, contributing two additional gold medals, both by Vo Thanh Tung.

Tung, who won silver in the men’s 200m freestyle S5 discipline yesterday, was bestowed with gold after the first-place finisher from Myanmar was found to have an inappropriate disability classification.

Tung then finished supreme in the 50m backstroke S5 event, clocking a final time of 46.62 seconds, 0.38 second faster than the Chinese silver medallist, Zhang Chao.

Vietnam won four silver medals on Monday as well, thanks to powerlifters Dang Thi Linh Phuong (women’s -50kg, a 88kg lift) and Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan (women’s -55kg, a 103kg lift), Nguyen Be Hau (men’s javelin throw – F55/56), and the men’s swimming team (4x50 relay freestyle 20P).

Swimmers also added two more bronze medals to Vietnam’s tally, one by Vo Huynh Anh Khoa in the men’s 100m freestyle S9 event and one by the men’s team in the 4x50 relay medley 20P discipline.

As of 9pm today, the Vietnamese delegation stood seventh in the medal count with a total of five gold, seven silver and three bronze.
