Defensive line makes mistakes, Vietnam tie 2-2 with Indonesia
Host Vietnam and Indonesia drew 2-2 at Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium on November 22 during their fisrt Group A match of the ongoing ASEAN Football Federation-Suzuki Cup 2014.
Despite goals scored by key players, Vietnam’s defensive line let in two easy goals.
Cheered by the home fans, Vietnam had a very favourable start and bombarded Indonesisa with attacks.
From a corner kick, coach Toshiya Miura’s players took advatage of goalkeeper Van Dijk’s mistake to score the opener by Que Ngoc Hai at the 11th minute.

During the remainder of the first half, Vietnam continued to dominate with strengthened attacks ̶ Indonesia had very little chance for offensive.
However, Indonesia’s Zamrun punished Vietnam’s defensive mistake with a surprise equaliser in the 33rd minute. The first half ended with a draw 1-1.
Vietnam continued to dominate the game right from the beginning of the second half. In the 50th minute, Indoniesia goalpost repelled Hai Anh’s close range shot.
In the 55th minutes, coach Miura decided to give substitute Cong Vinh a chance. Just ten minutes later, not betraying the expectations of the Japanese strategist, the striker made a beautiful volley to net in the second goal for Vietnam.
It seemed that three points were in hands, yet another mistake in defence line cost Vietnam another equaliser in the 83rd minutes. Indonesia’s Samsul launched a quite safe shot, however, goalkeeper Nguyen Manh suddenly missed the ball.
The remaining minutes was not enough for Vietnam to seek another goal, as both teams left the field with a 2-2 result.
In other Group A match the same day, Laos suffered a humiliating 1-4 loss to the Philippines.
Vietnam will play Laos on Tuesday.
