AFF Suzuki Cup: Vietnam stuns Laos 3-0
Vietnam scored a 3-0 victory over Laos at Hanoi’s My Dinh station on November 25, moving towards a semi-final berth in the 2014 Southeast Asian Football Championship - AFF Suzuki Cup.
Vu Minh Tuan put Vietnam ahead after 27 minutes with a low shot, and striker Le Cong Vinh doubled the advantage with a close-range tap six minutes before midfielder Nguyen Huy Hung wrapped up the victory with a third goal in the dying moments of the game.
With Indonesia losing 4-0 to the Philippines, Vietnam now only need one point from the last group game against the Philippines to reach the semi-final stage.
Earlier at the opening Group A match on November 22, hosts Vietnam held a 2-2 draw with Indonesia.
The 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup is being co-hosted by Vietnam and Singapore from November 22 to December 20.
Games for Group A — Laos, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam — are taking place in Hanoi. Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, and host Singapore are in Group B.
The semifinal and final games of the tournament will take place from December 6 to 20.
