Vietnam wins three gold medals at world taekwondo championships

Vietnam secured three gold, two silver and four bronze medals at the ninth WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships which wrapped up in Aguascalientes, Mexico on November 2.

In the first day of competition, Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim and Nguyen Thuy Xuan Linh won the U30 women's team gold after defeating opponents from China’s Taipei and Turkey.

Vietnam won two more gold medals thanks to Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh in the women's individual freestyle and from duo Le Thanh Trung - Ngo Thi Thuy in the freestyle pair division.

This year's four-day event attracted over 460 poomsae athletes from 46 countries.

The 29-member Vietnamese team competed in 24 out of 36 disciplines with the aim of winning at least two gold medals.

Vietnam ranked second in the eighth edition of the same event held in Bali, Indonesia, last year, with three gold, three silver and five bronze medals.
