Vietnamese taekwondo wins first gold at world poomsae championships
An outstanding performance by Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thuy Xuan Linh and Nguyen Thi Le Kim on October 30 earned Vietnam the first gold medal at the 9th WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships going on in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

The Vietnamese trio won a total of 8,880 points in the women’s team U30 category, edging out Taiwanese opponents with 8,850 points.
On the same day, Vietnam’s martial artists also took home one silver in the U17 mixed doubles freestyle event and three bronze medals in the women’s individual U14, women’s individual over-17 freestyle and mixed doubles U30 disciplines.
The annual event, which lasts until November 2, features hundreds of competitors from across the world in 36 disciplines - 16 individual, eight team, four mixed doubles and eight freestyle poomsae events.
The 29-member Vietnam team, led by President of the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation Truong Ngoc De, are battling it out for medals in 16 traditional and eight freestyle poomsae events. At last year’s tournament, Vietnam ended up in second place with an overall collection of three gold, three silver and five bronze medals.
