Vietnam moves up one step in December FIFA rankings
The Vietnam men’s national football team leapt up one place to 137th in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking for the last month of 2014, which was announced on December 18.
The slight promotion helped Vietnam maintain their second place in Southeast Asia with 211 points, nine points fewer than that of the regional leaders Philippines, who dropped two places to 130th in the world.
Thailand climbed two notches to 142nd in the world and fourth in Southeast Asia with 194 points, six points behind third-placed Myanmar (141st in the world).
Japan fell one place to sit 53rd in the world with 563 points, losing Asia’s top spot to Iran, who resumed their 51st position with 580 points. The Republic of Korea finished the 2014 year in 69th place in the world ranking and third in Asia with 481 points.
The world top ten rankings saw little change this month, with Germany, Argentina and Colombia defending their top three positions with 1725, 1538 and 1450 points respectively.
The next FIFA world ranking will be announced on January 8, 2015.
