It was the home side who played better during the opening 30 minutes.

Van Toan created Vietnam’s first dangerous attack six minutes into the game driving the ball across the Indonesian goal, forcing goalkeeper Fadhil to work hard for a block.

Que Ngoc Hai continued the hosts’ pressure with a strong header from close range nine minutes later, which was, however, not accurate enough to be converted into a goal.

The visitors made a better refresh in the remainder of the first half enjoying two opportunities to score in the 31st and 46nd minutes, but goalie Van Tien’s brilliance kept the Vietnamese goal clean until the whistle rang.

After the break, Vietnam’s coach Toshiya Miura made some lineup changes, with Cong Phuong, Hung Dung and Van Son replacing Van Toan, Tuan Anh and Tan Tai. These adjustments proved effective enabling the home side to regain ball possession and deploy more attacks on the guests’ side.

It was not until the 75th minute that the deadlock was broken in Vietnam’s favour as Huy Toan took a passing header from Huu Dung before blasting a cunning finish to beat Indonesian goalie Fadhil.

The remainder of the match saw Indonesia’s offensive efforts for an equaliser, however, the 1-0 score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
