Thailand claimed champion, Vietnam ranked fourth

Thongsombut Rattikan’s goal in the 71st minute secured the 3-2 victory against Myanmar, helping Thailand claim the championship at the ASEAN Football Federation Women's Championship.

In the final match in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday, both teams entered the match with caution in the opening minutes. However, Thailand managed to score an opener in the 37th minute, thanks to Kanjanam.

The goal heightened the atmosphere at Thong Nhat Stadium, as a drastic score chase began.

Efforts from the Myanmar womens team paid off with an equaliser in the 55th minute by Khin Moe Wai.

However, two consecutive goals by Romyen and Thongsombut in the 65th and 71st minutes took Thailand to a 3-1 lead.

Theing Tun’s goal in the 75th minute could not help Myanmar turn around the result.

Meanwhile, hosts Vietnam finished fourth at the tournament after losing to the Under-20 team of Australia 4-3 during the fourth-place playoff match in HCM City the same day.

Vietnam had a par play against the rivals with the advantage of height but could not maintain the momentum till the last minutes.

Australia quickly played attack and Ann Ferguson opened the score early in the 4th minute. Immediately, Vietnam leveled the score in the tenth minute with Minh Nguyet scoring a penalty goal. Nguyet scored a second goal for her team in the 31st minute.

After the break, the Australians sped up the game and two consecutive goals by Ibini Isei in the 56th minute and another from Beatrice Goad in the 74th minute gave Australia the lead at 3-2.

However, Vietnam continued to played tirelessly and in the 84th minute, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung’s header beat the Australian goalkeeper to level the score at 3-3.

But Vietnam's happiness did not last long as during injury time, Ibini Isei scored another goal to help Australia win 4-3.

Following the match, Vietnam will take a short training course in Australia from May 15-22.
