Vietnam hosts Southeast Asian Women's Football Championships

The 2015 Southeast Asian Women’s Football Championships, AFF Cup 2015, officially kicked off at the Thong Nhat stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on May 1.

This year’s tournament draws the participation of eight teams including U20 Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam. The participants were divided into two groups A and B.

Australia easily defeated Thailand 3-0 in their match, which followed the opening ceremony.

The Australian players managed to take a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute after Harrison, the Australian captain, scored a goal from a penalty shoot-out.

In the 77th minute, Beatrice widened the lead to 2-0 and striker Checker scored a third goal in the 82nd minute to help the Australian team secure the victory.

On the same day, the Lao women’s team won 2-0 in another group A match against Indonesia.

Vietnam will face Myanmar in their first group B match on May 2; meanwhile Malaysia will compete with the Philippines on the same day.

The 2015 Southeast Asian Women’s Football Championships will last until May 10.
