Inspired by a 3-2 victory over Japan on Wednesday, Vietnam entered the match confidently and hardly broke a sweat to claim the first set 25-18 against underdogs Mongolia.

Despite suddenly lagging behind in the opening minutes of the second set, the Vietnamese women quickly regained their rhythm and wrapped up the game 25-14 in their favour.

The two consecutive wins gave Vietnam huge confidence coming into the third game, where they took the lead 5-1, 8-2 and 20-9 before declaring victory with a final score of 25-13.

With five points won after two matches, Vietnam made it through to the quarterfinal round as Group C leaders, while Japan and Mongolia will meet each other in the last group match on May 22 for the group’s remaining quarterfinal ticket.

The biennial event is taking place in Tianjin, China from May 20 to 28, gathering 16 teams competing in a round robin format in four groups, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the quarterfinals.
