Anh Vien concludes SEA Games competition with eight gold medals

Vietnam’s premier swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien produced a stunning finish to her SEA Games campaign on Thursday night by winning the women’s 200m breaststroke with a final time of 2:31.16.

It was the eighth consecutive title Vien had won thus far at the 28th Games in Singapore, and also Vietnam’s solitary medal of the night.

In previous days of competition, Vien had taken top honours in the women’s 200m backstroke, 200m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 400m freestyle, 400m individual medley and 800m freestyle.

She also struck the regional swimming by breaking eight Games records in all the seven abovementioned events.

In addition to her golden collection, Vien picked up a silver medal in the 100m freestyle and an additional bronze medal in the 50m backstroke.

With eight gold, one silver and one bronze medal in hand, Vien has become one of the best performers at the 28th SEA Games, only behind Singapore’s Joseph Isaac Schooling, who claimed gold in all the nine disciplines he participated in.

As of 9.30pm today, Vietnam held on to second place in the SEA Games standings with 57 gold medals, a two-gold gap against Thailand. Singapore stood firmly on top with an amazing tally of 66 golds.
