Taekwondo secures Vietnam's 62nd gold at SEA Games

Taekwondo artist Truong Thi Kim Tuyen defeated Bermejo Irene Therese of the Philippines 19-7 in the women’s under-46kg final on Friday night to bring home the 62nd gold medal for Vietnam at the 28th SEA Games in Singapore.

It was Vietnam’s solitary medal of the night and also the third gold won by the taekwondo team on June 12.

Earlier in the day, Vietnamese taekwondo fighters picked up two gold medals in the mixed pair poomsae and women’s team poomsae events, as well as an additional silver medal in the men’s team poomsae.

The athletics team concluded their SEA Games campaign today with one more gold medal won by Nguyen Thi Huyen in the women’s 400m and seven additional silver medals, pushing the total medal count to 11 golds, 14 silvers and eight bronzes.

As of 9.30pm today, Vietnam has won a total of 62 gold, 41 silver and 50 bronze medals and temporarily stands in third position in the SEA Games standings, eight gold medals away from second-place Singapore. Thailand surged to top spot with 71 gold medals.
